Mr. H.R. Shah, recipient of one of India’s highest civilian honors, the Padma Shri (2017), has been recognized for his impactful contributions in the fields of Literature and Education-Journalism. One of only three honorees from the United States that year, Mr. Shah received this prestigious award from the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
Originally from Bahadarpur, Gujarat, Mr. Shah has been a resident of the United States for over 46 years and serves as Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (USA), an organization committed to the advancement of literature, culture, education, music, and the arts. A pioneer in the Indian-American community, Mr. Shah has dedicated his life to community service and strengthening ties between India and the United States. His work with TV ASIA and various other initiatives has showcased his commitment to promoting India’s heritage and values abroad.
Upon learning of the Padma Shri honor, Mr. Shah expressed profound gratitude, attributing this recognition to over 35 years of dedicated service. He voiced deep appreciation for the Republic of India and his supporters, including family, friends, and colleagues, and shared his aspiration to further his contributions towards India-U.S. relations and the promotion of India’s cultural richness.
Now, as a mentor with B&S Foundation, Mr. Shah brings unparalleled guidance and vision, contributing to the foundation’s mission to uplift and empower women and children across India. His extensive experience and commitment to social causes make him an invaluable part of the foundation’s Advisory Board, inspiring all involved to create lasting change.
